It was the end of February 2020, in the mids of the coronavirus outbreak. I was contemplating whether to take the first big step toward my professional dreams. The thought “Luck follows the risk-takers” echoed in my head as I waited to board the plane. It was my first time in the country of tulips. My first visit to the city called Venice of the North. My mission was clear: to walk into the Armada HQ and convey my willingness to leave everything behind to pursue my passion for electronic music.
On this quest, I put on my headphones and pressed play to the newly released Anjunadeep 11. The easy-riding beat, subtly evolving melody, and deep bassline shoot me to another dimension. My whole body shivered when I heard the etherial voice of the Canadian singer Forrest singing “Please, come here. I thought that you want it. I thought that you care still…”.
This was the moment, when I discovered Simon Doty. His utterly captivating melodic-driven techno remains one of my favourites to this day.
